The Alkifron Evening Rituals - Simple Practices for Relaxation and Restful Sleep

We follow a gentle path to restful sleep maintaining a circadian-friendly environment. To support a peaceful night’s sleep, along with our rooms' design, we invite our guests to practice a few simple evening rituals inspired by nature and the rhythm of Pelion. These rituals are not rules, but kind invitations to slow down and prepare the body and mind for rest, allowing gradual transition from the activity of the day to a calm and restful night.

Here's how we do it

  • Pillow Comfort
Different people sleep best with different levels of pillow support. We offer a small selection of pillows — for example soft, medium, or firm — allowing you to adjust your sleeping environment according to your personal comfort. You don't have to travel with your pillow!
  • Sound & Atmosphere
In the morning, soft music is played to create a calm and welcoming start to the day. In the evening, the atmosphere shifts naturally, allowing the sounds of the night to take over and create a peaceful environment for relaxation.
  • Herbal Evening Tea Ceremony
Our guests can enjoy a selection of herbal infusions prepared with traditional Greek herbs such as mountain tea, chamomile, and lemon balm, valued for their naturally calming properties. Carefully selected for both their flavor and their relaxing qualities, these herbal teas are available in each room for you to enjoy at any time of the day.
  • Aromatherapy
At Alkifron, natural aromas are carefully integrated into the guest experience to promote relaxation and well-being. Selected spaces feature gentle aromatherapy diffusers using natural essential oils, creating a subtle and soothing environment throughout the evening. Our signature scent is designed to enhance relaxation and create a sense of familiarity during your stay. It combines notes of lavender, sandalwood, cedarwood, and bergamot —a blend known for its calming and grounding properties. In addition, each room includes a small lavender sachet placed on the pillow, offering a natural and gentle way to support a restful night’s sleep.
  • Light Transition
The body naturally prepares for sleep when light becomes warmer and dimmer. Lighting in common areas becomes warmer and softer during the evening hours, helping create a relaxed atmosphere and supporting the body’s natural transition to rest. We simulate sunset indoors (Circadian Lighting) by: gradually dimming lights in the evening and using warm amber lighting instead of blue light. We also use bedside lamps with warm tones and blackout curtains. Why does it work? Light directly affects melatonin production, the hormone that triggers sleep.
  • Digital Detox
All guests are encouraged to limit the use of electronic devices before bedtime, allowing the mind to relax and improving sleep quality. Avoiding screens at least one hour before sleep gives the human brain a short but important break before sleep. We provide a device basket in all our rooms!
  • The Pelion Night Sky
The natural environment of Pelion offers clear skies and quiet surroundings. Taking a few moments outdoors before sleep can provide a peaceful end to the day. Enjoy the night breeze in our cosy yard and have a good night!
  • Breath in - Breath out
These are short guided breathing exercises designed to slow the nervous system. A popular technique used by sleep experts is the 4-7-8 breathing method: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, exhale slowly for 8 seconds. Repeating this cycle 4–5 times lowers heart rate and prepares the body for sleep. Let's practice together!
  • Weighted Blankets
Sometimes you just want a hug—or, at the very least, a big, fluffy cat to curl up in your lap. When neither is available, there’s the weighted blanket, a heavier-than-usual throw or comforter that’s meant to wrap the body in a soothing embrace. Sleep experts usually recommend a blanket weighing about 8–12% of a person’s body weight. Weighted blankets work through a mechanism called deep pressure stimulation (DPS). This gentle pressure across the body can: reduce stress and anxiety, lower heart rate, increase serotonin and melatonin, and reduce cortisol (stress hormone)! Ask if you want to have one such blanket in your room.
